Songwriter and storyteller Matthew Moran will be back at Next Coffee Co. this Friday, after his terrific performance here last month.

Based right here out of Anthem, Ariz., Matthew was influenced at an early age by an appreciation for the lyrics and storytelling of the early ’70s — Jim Croce; Simon & Garfunkel; Gordon Lightfoot; Peter, Paul, & Mary; Pete Seeger; and good ol’ rock & roll. Although going on to take in everything from blues to country to ’80s rock, Matthew never lost his love for acoustic music and emotive lyrics.

His songwriting reflects his musical diversity and penchant for storytelling, from the Johnny Cash–stylized “Lonely Mile Man” and the blues-inflected “Dangerous Girl” to the sultry “Night Is Not for Sleeping” and the finger-picking ballads “Lady Love” and “Morning Girl.”
