Haunting and evocative, at times otherworldly, the underwater series from Martin Hazine continues his characteristic focus on the female form but through a remove of water that brings something distinct from most of his nudes — a complexity of light and shadow and a sense of something out of reach, a layered distance very different from the unabashed, almost-belligerence of many of his model shoots.

The effect is diffuse, mysterious, a secret gaze into a world of figures both muted and transmuted, refracted through an underwater silence and shadows.
