Come hear Phoenix-based quintet Dream Chemistry make their Next Coffee Co. debut.
With towering violins and occasional Celtic-tinged stylings laid over rhapsodic melodies, extended interludes, and a firmly New Age aesthetic, Dream Chemistry offer up their own brand of New Age, flavored with an infusion of prog rock and the sometime echo of an Irish fiddle.
The band’s instrumental “Breath of Fresh Air” suggests a cross between Laliya’s “Present Moment” and Kansas’ “Dust in the Wind.” Another Dream Chemistry instrumental, “Indian Wind,” builds from a straightforward strumming into an underlying melody line that recalls The Church’s “Under the Milky Way.”
While Dream Chemistry’s instrumental pieces tend toward listening of the nature-relaxation type, the soaring vocals of lead singer Ella McGee steer the group into a more foregrounded sound, as on the band’s new “Darque Ride.”
