Cody is a senior at Ironwood High School and a member of the Young Sounds of Arizona, where he was accepted at the age of 12 as the youngest member of YSA. He’s played with the Arizona All-State Jazz Band and Orchestra, the Southwest Regional Band, and the Arizona Jazz Academy Ellington Band.
In April, Cody performed at the 2009 Fullerton Jazz Festival in California, where he and the Blue Note Combo from the Tucson Jazz Institute received the first-ever perfect score in the history of the festival. Cody also performed at this year’s Monterey Jazz Festival, as one of the musicians selected for the 2009 Next Generation Jazz Orchestra.
Cody was selected to attend the elite Summer Jazz Colony at the Brubeck Institute this summer, and he spent last summer in Boston, after becoming one of four Arizona students to win a full-ride scholarship to the jazz performance summer program at the prestigious Berklee College of Music.
In past years, Cody has been invited to perform at the conference of the International Association for Jazz Education in Toronto, the Sedona Jazz on the Rocks Festival, the Western International Band Conference in Seattle, and the Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra conference in Chicago.
Cody has been featured on Channel 3’s Good Morning Arizona and Your Life A to Z and has performed with renowned jazz artists Wayne Bergeron, Rebeca Mauleón, Tony Monaco, Mike Vax, Pete Christlieb, and Carl Saunders.
