Live Music Friday 3/5 @8pm Eddie West
“Life can never get too hard cause I got love in my heart,” sings Eddie West in his song, “Love,” a sharp bluegrass song with piercing harmonies in the refrain. In his songs West uses his laid back voice to tell stories that are both fun and comforting for the listener. Backed by an acoustic guitar and harmonica, West fills the musical landscape of each song with a palette of natural, earthy colors.
In addition West’s music has a keen desire to take the musical map and turn it on its head. When a right turn is the obvious choice, West will turn left and pick up on a totally different groove. The most scenic way for him is always through the back roads. In the chorus of his song “Fix the Tractor,” West imagines no more comfort than life on the farm as he sings “It won’t be too long before the berries are in the baskets/ It won’t be too long before the checks have been cashed.” He sets in place a vision for a positive future with playful imagery, sharing as well with the listener a sense of purpose in life.
Through his host of original songs and his off-the-cuff style playing live, Eddie West is currently putting together a brand new album, with several songs already available for streaming on the Internet. The full-length effort will be available in 2009 and is already receiving unofficial praise from those that have heard it. Take the opportunity to sit back and listen to one of the tracks and you’ll recognize the immediate appeal as the voice of Eddie West draws the listener into the song. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself pushing repeat to catch more time daydreaming behind your desk.
