Kate Nolen-Artist of the Month

Kate Nolen-Artist of the Month

Kate Nolen is a North Louisiana native who currently resides in Phoenix, Arizona.  Growing up in the country, she has always appreciated the power of nature in its raw form.  Using found materials from human ruins and natural media from various landscapes, her art is a reflection of the love of the connectivity of human beings and nature.

Never formally trained in art, except for a few art classes in high school and college, Kate has been painting and taking photographs for eight years.  Only recently however, she has expanded her work to establish herself as an emerging artist.

During travels with her loving companion Notah, Kate continues to develop her inner space through culture and community.  She enjoys her job at a local hospital, doing yoga and cooking delicious vegan meals for friends and family, while taking care of her pet bunny, Freya, and cat, Jimi.

    Hi Kate,

I am your second cousin, Connie, and I live in Portland, Oregon, but was born and raised in Shreveport. My dad, Drew, and your grandfather, Ray, were brothers. I’m sorry that I’ve never had the occasion to meet you. I’ve seen Mary Jo more frequently that I have Richie in the last few years. Anyway, I heard that you were an artist. My daughter, Katie Humphries(34), lives in San Francisco and has been an artist for many years. She trained in oil painting at Portland State University and then got her Masters in painting at San Francisco Art Institute. She currently doesn’t have a gallery that she’s connected with. I think it is so interesting that you’re both artists. Maybe it runs in the Nolen genes. I really like your painting above. Best of luck to you in your art endeavors. Fondly, Connie Humphries
