Retro- Live Music- 8pm

Retro- Live Music- 8pm

Retro is a Rock and Roll band focused on the great music, vocals and harmonies of the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s.  Much of our material comes from the 1960’s British Invasion.  We also love playing Motown and Soul music, acoustic / vocal driven ballads by the Eagles, America, and Firefall, and straight ahead Rock and Roll tunes by Tom Petty, Neil Young and Van Morrison.

On lead vocals and playing acoustic guitar we feature Mike McCartney.  Mike began guitar lessons in 3rd grade, and he’s improved some since. Mike and his siblings were very musical growing up, and spent much of the 1970s playing and singing the folk-rock anthems of their time. His first band in sixth grade played covers of both “Gloria” and “Hey Joe”.  Mike spent several years playing and singing with a local band, The Needless Wonders, prior to joining forces with Retro. His sister, Nancy and brother-in-law, Harry, lead the award nominated San Diego band: Folding Mister Lincoln and Mike’s brother, Mark, a drummer, has had a professional music career that spans over three decades.

Our lead guitarist, John Spiro, earned a college degree, with a major in music from Trenton State College in 1969. During his college years John played in a local rock band called “Ourselves” but after having a bit of confusion with the name “Ourselves” on the marquee they went with the name “The Selvies”.  “The Selvies” were in great demand, playing bars, taverns, weddings, sorority and fraternity parties in and around the Philadelphia area.  After graduation, John joined the military, where he played in a military band, traveling and performing around the country. John is accomplished on six instruments and adds great harmonies to our sound. Today he and his wife own and operate a charter school in Scottsdale, Creative Arts School for Youth (C.A.S.Y.)

On bass guitar we are fortunate to have Charlie Moss.  Charlie has been involved in music since he was five, and started playing in classic rock bands back in 1966 at the age of 19.  He learned to play many of our songs back then.  Charlie’s played professionally for many years, and his bands have shared stages with Linda Ronstadt, Jose Feliciano, America and even the big band trumpeter Harry James. Charlie brings his strong vocal abilities and awesome bass playing skills to the group.

Our drummer, Larry Schneider began playing in 1963, at 7 years of age, and drumming remains his passion to this day.  In addition to playing drums, Larry sings lead vocals on many of our songs and contributes many of the harmonies that gives Retro its’ signature sound.  Larry also currently plays drums and percussion with Skunk Creek Railroad (a jam band) and percussion for the praise and worship band at Highlands Church, The Gangsters of Soul.
