Our Story

Next Coffee Co. opened its doors in April 2008, the brainchild of Don Fenstermaker, the CEO and founder of another successful Phoenix-based company, NextStudent Inc.

After 17 years of providing students and their families a range of affordable college financing options through NextStudent, Don thought, why not give students something more than just a way to pay for school? — a place to study, hang out, get great coffee and great food … a home away from home.

And so the idea for Next Coffee Co. was born.

But things have a funny way of changing on their way to where you think you’re going, and it’s not just students who’ve found a place at all that Next Coffee Co. has become. There’s still the free Wi-Fi, plenty of outlets for laptops, and the huge tables for spreading out and studying, but there’s also live music, open mic nights, and video game nights. Laidback, open meeting space for groups throughout the day. Story time for the little ones, a conference room for the execs, and tons of comfy seats for everyone and anyone who stops by.

We’re a place for everyone, students and business types, musicians and poets, moms and dads, neighborhood groups and community clubs. Our customers make us who we are and who we want to be. We’re here to be your coffee shop. Come on in, stay a while, and help us shape what comes next.
